Concerns employer inquiries about worker’s wage and salary experience
NJEA supports A-1094 (Downey, Lampitt, Schaer, Houghtaling, Benson, Muoio, DeAngelo), which amends the “Law Against Discrimination” to strengthen protections against employment discrimination and promote equal pay for women. This bill prohibits any employer from:
NJEA supports efforts to level the playing field for women in the workplace. For far too long, employers used salary history to keep wages down among women. Employers also threaten to fire employees if they share salary information, thus depriving women of asking their male counterparts what they earn.
This bill is common sense and will go a long way to helping women level the playing field at the workplace.
