A 4679: Directs Commissioner of Education to develop sensitivity training program for high school athletic directors, coaches, and sports officials of interscholastic athletic sports programs

A 4679

Directs Commissioner of Education to develop sensitivity training program for high school athletic directors, coaches, and sports officials of interscholastic athletic sports programs.

NJEA supports A-4679 (Wimberly, Vainieri Huttle, Jasey).  This bill would develop sensitivity training programs for high school athletic directors, coaches, and other sports officials.

All students have a right to feel welcome, without fear of bias, when participating in interscholastic athletic programs.  Coaches and other athletic personnel are often in a position to ensure the promotion of an open and hospitable climate, focused on enjoyment of the sports activity, and not unjust bias.  These officials must be provided the tools to spot and redress any intolerance immediately.

NJEA believes that New Jersey’s public schools do best when the diversity of our student population is celebrated and all students feel welcome to participate in athletic activities.

For these reasons, NJEA urges you to vote “YES” on A-4679.
