AJR 187 SJR 53
Designates the second Friday of December of each year as “Paraprofessional and School-Related Personnel (PSRPs) in Our Schools Day”
NJEA supports AJR-187 (Lampitt, Pintor Marin, Downey)/SJR-53 (Ruiz, Turner), which designates the second Friday of December of each year as “Paraprofessional and School-Related Personnel (PSRPs) in Our Schools Day” in New Jersey to recognize the contributions of paraprofessionals and school-related personnel.
Paraprofessional school employees–including school bus drivers, custodians, food service workers, school nurses, and security professionals–provide essential services to New Jersey’s public schools and institutions of higher education. As an integral part of the public education system, paraprofessional employees promote student achievement, ensure student safety, and contribute to the establishment and promotion of a positive instructional environment.
Paraprofessionals play a direct role in not only helping a student achieve, but also are more likely than teachers to live in the community where they work, thus providing much needed familiar faces of a community to our school children.
NJEA urges you to vote “yes” on AJR-187/SJR-53 and thank the sponsors for such recognition.
