While the first committee hearing since the declaration of the public health emergency was held by phone, that was because the legislature was finalizing arrangements with zoom.  Thursday’s hearing, and those going forward, are on zoom.  Having testified at one already, it feels different than being at the committee hearing in person.

Members of the public (including lobbyists) who wish to testify have to submit their requests a day ahead of time and then receive the link to the zoom meeting.  (As with all legislative hearings, the hearing is broadcast as it happens on the legislature’s website.  Just go to www.njleg.state.nj.us; they are on the homepage.).

Because of the technology requirements for holding hearings, in general, each house gets one committee hearing each day.  (Although there are three this Tuesday.  Tuesdays aren’t even usually session days!).  Almost all the bills being considered so far are related to Covid-19 and its impact.

This week, as noted above, committees are meeting Monday and Tuesday, with a voting session on Thursday, so an update will be out after Thursday.  Then the legislature meets again on the 28th of May.

By the way — we have a number for the subcontracting bill in the Assembly:  A4140.  So take action on Job Justice for ESPs and Chapter 78 relief below.
