S 724: Directs Commissioner of Education to establish three-year pilot program to increase reading levels of certain students; appropriates $1 million.

S 724 (Codey): This bill establishes a three-year pilot program in six districts across the state that will provide general education students, who are not reading at grade level by the end of the second grade, with summer school instruction. The pilot will provide information on the effectiveness of summer instruction to help students learn to read; we encourage the legislature to look at other instructional strategies as well.
