Directs NJ Department of Agriculture to request necessary waivers from US Department of Agriculture to provide food and meals during school closures due to COVID-19 public health emergency

S 2849 (Ruiz) As the COVID-19 pandemic continues and many students across the state continue to learn remotely, it is critical that children receive the nutrition necessary to be healthy and ready to learn in the new school year. S2849 would allow the NJ Department of Agriculture to request the necessary waivers for schools to continue serving meals through federal food programs administered by the US Department of Agriculture. By allowing schools to continue providing meals to children through the Summer Food Service Program and federal Child and Adult Care Food Program, this legislation will ensure students continue to have access to nutritious food so that they can remain physically healthy, emotionally strong and thrive academically during this difficult time.
