Collection of voluntary information regarding sexual orientation and gender identity
NJEA supports S-3133 (Vitale)/A-4216 (Eustace, Muoio, Jasey, Vainieri Huttle, Mukherji, Gusciora) which requires the collection of voluntary, self-disclosed information about sexual orientation and gender identity in certain surveys by State agencies. This bill would allow for the correct identification of individuals according to their sexual orientation and gender identity, if they so choose, by State agencies.
Capturing data regarding an individual’s sexual orientation and gender identity through agency surveys would help us better understand the experiences of and address inequality faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender persons in New Jersey. Identifying the challenges faced by LGBT individuals in our society is critical, so that any barriers to their equality can be eliminated.
NJEA asks you to vote “yes” on S-3133/A-4216.
