S 837 A 2665

Extends health benefits coverage of a newborn infant.

NJEA supports S-837 (Beach)/A-2665 (Lampitt).  These bills would extend the health benefits coverage of newborn infants.  Currently, newborn infants are covered for 30 days from the time of their birth without being enrolled in a health insurance plan.  These bills would extend that to 90 days.

The 30-day limitation can be difficult for parents to meet.  These bills give them more time to ensure their children are covered by health insurance.  Early care can be critical to preventing future developmental issues that can follow a child throughout his or her life.

These bills will help new parents and guarantee that children have access to health care in their first months.

We ask that you support S-837/A-2665.
