Condemns Hate and Bias Crimes

NJEA supports SR-118 (Greenstein, Codey).  This resolution recognizes the problematic rise of hate and bias crimes and recent years.  It condemns hate crimes and any other form of racism, religious or ethnic bias, discrimination, incitement to violence, or animus targeting of minorities in New Jersey.

Furthermore, the resolution calls for exploring ways of assisting victims of hate crimes and enhancing security measures and preparedness at religious institutions, places of worship, and other institutions that have been targeted.  Unfortunately, recent events in New Zealand and elsewhere across the world and at home reveal that this protection is regrettably necessary.

NJEA believes this is an important expression of unity for the state to condemn hate and bias crimes in all forms.

For these reasons, NJEA asks that you vote “yes” on SR-118.
