Recognizes March of 2018 as “Youth Art Month.”
NJEA supports SR-47 (Turner, Ruiz). This resolution recognizes March of 2018 as Youth Art Month.
Art plays a critical role in student learning. Art education plays an important role in student learning in schools. It helps improve academic achievement and enhances test scores and critical and creative thinking. Art education teaches that there are multiple solutions to problems. In turn, it teaches problem solving and the idea that questioning and possibilities are endless. Art thus enhances creativity.
As schools have become more focused on test scores and testing outcomes, it is more important than ever to ensure students continue to be engaged in the arts. Recognizing Youth Art Month acknowledges the importance of school art programs.
