Designates June 19, known as Juneteenth Day, as State and public holiday

 S 19 (Sweeney, Cunningham) Juneteenth, the oldest commemoration of the ending of slavery in the nation, is an opportunity to celebrate African American history and culture, as well as a time to address the injustices African Americans continue to encounter. By designating June 19 as a state and public holiday, New Jersey can work to acknowledge the wrongs of the past and build a better future. NJEA believes in equality for all individuals, and together with our 200,000 members we are working to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges facing Black Americans and all people of color.
