S 3488

Modifies certain procedures pertaining to school district regionalization; establishes grant program for cost reimbursement of conducting regionalization feasibility studies; and provides financial incentives for regionalization

S 3488 (Sweeney, Gopal, O’Scanlon)  NJEA supports S 3488 and thanks the Senate President for working closely to remedy the concerns of education support professionals and teachers.  This bill represents a smart approach to address the long-standing issues that plague districts considering a voluntary consolidation. The bill’s new requirements for the feasibility study will ensure that residents get detailed information on how a consolidation might occur and its impact on students before going to a vote. What’s more, the bill guards against segregation and promotes labor stability by protecting the affected school district employees.  The bill will ensure that voters make an informed decision on any consolidation proposal put forward.

NJEA urges you to support S 3488.
