A1184 (Zwicker, Conaway, Verelli, Caputo)/S1020 (Ruiz, Gopal) A 4414 (Conaway, Verrelli, Caputo) NJEA thanks the sponsors for addressing some issues originally proposed in this legislation. Understanding there are racial discrepancies in discipline, we continue to recommend that districts be provided with additional supports and resources to change their disciplinary practices going forward. For instance, the trauma-informed approach in the pilot program created in P.L.2019, c.412, has been shown to help schools reduce discipline and improve life-long outcomes for students. We look forward to continuing to work with the legislature and Department of Education on this important issue.
