S 3849 (Lagana, Diegnan)  S 3851 (Lagana, Diegnan) NJEA supports these smart measures to improve school bus safety.  Boards of education are often unwilling or unable to thoroughly investigate the safety of private bus companies, yet still get lured by the illusion of cost savings. Unfortunately, these low costs can come at the price of safety. Skimping on school bus safety is never a valid reason to save money. These bills will ensure that the least scrupulous private operators are unable to profit from failings in their safety records, while also ensuring that more information is publicly available to assess the safety of their operations.
