S 2924

Creates two-year “Restorative and Transformative Justice for Youths and Communities Pilot Program” in Juvenile Justice Commission focused on reducing youth involvement with youth justice system; appropriates $8.4 million in FY 2021 and FY 2022

S2924 (Turner, Pou) NJEA has long supported policies that aim to help our youth succeed, not punish them. S2924 is an appropriate first step by creating a pilot program to employ restorative justice practices for getting youth on the right track. By combining community-based services and relationships, the pilot has promised to inform the state of other practices that could be incorporated across New Jersey’s communities. What’s more, the bill recognizes that education is key to this process. Now more than ever, New Jersey’s young people need a hand up.

NJEA supports S 2924 and asks that you do the same.
