S 4077: Requires DEP to develop and implement electric school bus program; provides for $15 million in first year and $15 million annually in subsequent two years to DEP, subject to availability, to provide grants

S 4077 (Diegnan, Greenstein) NJEA supports the intent of this pilot program for electric buses. Clean energy school buses are an important step to helping the environment. However, we would like to see some changes in the bill, including a prohibition against any subcontracting or layoffs during the time period of the grant program, and a mechanism to ensure that the grant money should go only to school districts, not private vendors. We look forward to continuing to work with the sponsors.
